Daily Dish Pro WordPress Theme Review

For those who came in late – I wondered if the Genesis Framework was worth the money for resource strapped small business owners, then I took the plunge and went in for it this year. Now all our websites run on the Genesis Framework, and so far, I am pretty happy with it. I had a tough time choosing a theme for my food blog and finally went in for the Foodie theme because it is so popular. But I wasn’t totally convinced. Now I wish Daily Dish Pro had been around when I bought Foodie.

So what is great about the Daily Dish Pro theme? Well, it has all the standard awesomeness that you expect from any theme built for the Genesis Framework.

  • 6 Layout Options including Full Width and Two Sidebars
  • HTML5 Markup
  • Schema.org Support
  • Mobile Responsiveness (yes, that’s great for your iPad)
  • Lifetime Upgrades and Support
  • Helpful Blogger Community

……………

But this is nothing compared to what sets it apart.

Daily Dish Pro is so distinctive! Food bloggers, it is designed to make your food stand out, as if it was from a 4 star restaurant. Here are some of the best things about this WordPress theme.

Typography

What the heck is that? Well, typography is just how the various text elements in your theme are designed. It refers to the various fonts, font sizes, font colors and specifies how your H1, H2, H3 etc. tags will look.

There are a lot of content boxes with different colors which remind me of Elegant Themes.

Color Options

The Daily Dish pro theme seems to come in only the Black and White option. It is stark. And beautiful. It is perfect for food or fashion where bloggers want their pictures to stand out. The titles and headings draw attention with their full black color, and I prefer it to the gray color that is often used.

If by chance you need a different color to match your brand, slight modifications to the style sheet can get you there.

Category Pages

This is one of the most helpful features a WordPress theme can offer. You can create Pages at rapid speed just by choosing a different category for each page. Then just combine them in a menu, and food bloggers, you have a helpful navigation that will let visitors quickly find what they want.

Landing Page

A landing Page Template allows you to create a simple page, handy for any freebies you want to offer or products you want to sell. (like our soon to be released ebook on WordPress)

Widgetized Areas

Daily Dish Pro is liberally endowed with Widget Areas. If you already use Genesis or WordPress, you know how handy it can be. Of course, you can code your own widget areas (like we did on this site), but hey, the whole point of buying a premium theme is to make your life simpler.

Let’s take a look at the widget areas the theme comes with –

Before Header Widget Area

Great for adding a 728×90 leader board, or announcing any special offers from your site.

Home Top Widget Area

Feature your latest post here in all its glory. You can also add an image slider here as I have done on my food blog.

Home Middle Widget Area

Add posts from a specific category, or just the last 5 or 10 posts

Home Bottom Widget Area

Use this for a photo stream like from Flickr or Instagram

Before Footer Widget Area

Add blog rolls, search bars, Tweet stream, latest comments or links to your blog’s pages.

After Footer Widget Area

Ad units or sign up forms will go great here. Ads can be internal or external.

After Entry Widget Area

After Entry or After Post area can be used to add author profiles, links to landing pages, freebies or sales pages on your site. See below this post for an example.

You are really spoiled for choice with Daily Dish Pro!

Remember – you don’t have to use all these widget areas. Any area you don’t use automatically slides up.

Best Feature of Daily Dish Pro

What do I think is the best feature of Daily Dish Pro theme? Navigation! It comes in the form of all the widget areas. Used cleverly, it gives your visitor several options to other content on your website. This is invaluable for content marketing, or portraying everything on your site in the best light to visitors.

Daily Dish Pro has almost a magazine like feel without too much clutter. And the best advice I have is to mix it up. Make use of different areas at different times, and offer something new to visitors which is also a good way to split test what works on your site.
